Michael Cecchini - Civic Leadership in Public Safety and Policing
Michael Cecchini is an accomplished civic leader with four decades of experience in law enforcement. In his most recent position as Bay City, Michigan’s public safety director and police chief, he oversaw policy development, strategic planning, community relations, and budgeting. Through his work in this position, Michael Cecchini designed and implemented a department that improved public safety.
Instituting community-based policing programs, many of which were funded through federal and state grants, Mr. Cecchini worked in tandem with organizations such as Bridge the Gap and Families Against Narcotics. He also partnered with National Night Out in reconnecting victims of overdoses with appropriate social work providers.
Active with the Phoenix Police Department until 2006, Mr. Cecchini held responsibilities such as lieutenant of patrol operations north division. Working as part of the chief’s office, he provided administrative support and oversaw the division’s performance achievement plan. He also coordinated administrative investigations and reports related to injured prisoner/use of force and industrial injuries. Reflecting outstanding public service, he received Phoenix’s Police Department Community Policing Award.
